Handsome Auzzie Boy!

The following is a little update on his life in the big city!!

Our handsome Auzzie is doing great in his home in Boston, MA!! It only took him a couple of days to adjust to city living before he became a city pup who isn't even bothered by trucks going by or cars honking! Luckily, we live close to the beach and Auzzie loves to run on the beach every morning and afternoon - chasing the birds and his other dog-friends! He won't swim in the water but the beach seems to be heaven on earth for him. He misses his brothers and sisters and was excited to hear that he could see updated pictures of them!! He makes friends everywhere he goes, which is MANY places because we don't leave home without him very often!! Auzzie's favorite thing is snuggling on the couch or in bed and he told us write that he thinks he is "the luckiest pup"!

Lyle's Happy Tail!

Lyle (formerly Harrison) is the love of my life! I feel like I got so lucky finding this pup. He was so well natured right from the start, he just LOVES people and people love him. Sometimes this 59 lb. hound likes to think that he's a lap dog. He's super cuddly when it's mellow time, but if it's time to play he can be very sassy! He makes me laugh everyday. He's always the one to get other dogs riled up. He loves to play and has an endless amount of energy while he's playing. When he's off leash in the woods he starts running at warp speed in circles, but always stays close enough. We hike, swim, ski, jog, snuggle, watch movies, and do everything together. He's my best friend and I was so happy to hear that his brothers Stout & Porter are doing so well. I'll admit - seeing their faces, the same expression as I see so often with Lyle, brought tears to my eyes :) Thank you Lucky Pup Rescue!

Larry (now Ziggy) Adopted November 2008 - his brothers were Moe and Curly

Larry (now Ziggy) is spoiled to the bone. With three teenagers worshipping him, he waits by the Mudroom door for their arrival home every day and I know he wishes for just one ride on the school bus to see what the fuss is about.There is a bit of a tease in him as he loves to belly down, crawl with his front legs while dragging his behind, right in front of the llama (as if a sneaky coyote). The llama hates him as all llamas hate dogs. I think Ziggy glories in this, having the run of the yard and the closeness of his humans.

Healthy, happy and never a thought that he lived anywhere else, Ziggy is the perfect family dog.

April-Anna's Happy Tail!

We changed her name to April-Anna, so my mom could remember when her birthday is. April is a happy and energetic little girl. She is perfect in our pack of 4. She is a little timid at the dog park, but crazy anywhere else! April loves spending time with her family - at home or on the go. She loves to look out the window at the cars going by. April is very protective of her girls and will do anything for them. In the summer she likes to go swimming at her Memere and Pepere's camp, chasing ducks and squirrels, and just relaxing on the couch. At a local annual pet show, she won most energetic the 1st year and the 2nd year she won most talented! In the winter she loves hopping thru the snow, burying her bones, and showing off her ice karate tricks. April is very talented and smart. She loves to learn new tricks or show off what she knows. April has been a perfect addition to our family and we love her so! We can't wait to hear how her siblings are doing on Happy Tails!

Beautiful Remi (formerly Alexis)

Remi (Alexis) was adopted January 2010 - sister to Andy and Alex

Remi is such an awesome dog. She brings nothing but joy to our family. We had a bit of a scare when we first adopted her because she turned out to be heartworm positive. With the incredible care from the staff at our local veterinary center, we got her through it she is now in the clear. Remi is energetic, fun loving, and loyal. She doesn't seem to notice she is a short legged 22-pound pup! She is quite a watchdog and keeps us alert when anyone comes around. She helps to keep our other dog Fergie active and youthful. Quite often the two of them provide us with entertainment as they race around the house in a game of cat-and-mouse. Remi has adapted herself to our busy family life. She loves to go camping, hiking, mountain biking, and sledding. She is also quite content to snore on someone's lap if we are just relaxing at home.

Remi looks very serious in these photos, but she is really quite a goof. She is just the perfect dog for our family and we love her to pieces!!

Our Lucky Pup Rescue was a terrific experience and any future adoptions we make will be from Lucky Pup!!!

Allie is doing great! She has taken several obedience classes since we last updated you, and has done wonderfully. However, even with all her experience from dog classes, she still manages to get into a little mischief while outside. We live across the street from a horse farm, and if we don't keep an extremely watchful eye on her she slips over, eats as much horse manure as possible, and if the horses are out, tries to play with them. So because of that, we keep her on a leash or a 'long line' the majority of the time we are outside. She does like to play outside though, and can run like the wind. Inside, she absolutely loves to be as comfortable as possible, and has somehow convinced us to buy three dog beds for her. Each one a little more plush that the one before. They all are big enough to accommodate a dog two times her size! (what can we say, we are suckers for her beautiful brown eyes!) If she doesn't feel like sleeping in one of her beds, we can usually find her sprawled out on our couch. Believe me, for a small (40 lbs) dog, she somehow finds a way to take up the whole thing. She loves all people, and is very gentle with kids. She is hesitant around some dogs and is a little picky making dog friends. But you can tell she absolutely adores the dog friends that she has made.

Thomas - Rescue Dog Role Model!

Handsome Thomas - Adopted March 2008

We adopted Thomas in March of 2008. At that time, he was basically a feral 1 ½-year-old dog who had virtually no chance of being adopted. It was a long road to helping him become a member of our family and thank goodness for Lucky Pup and their members for helping us through the difficulties in the beginning. Thomas used to live in fear most of his waking hours, but now he exudes happiness! He rarely ceases wagging his tail and he is such a ham. His favorite thing is to sleep on the bed with us and he adores being petted. Thomas is a role model for anyone who takes in a fearful dog. He has overcome so many fears and even though he still has some to conquer, when you look in his eyes, you see a happy, satisfied Lucky Pup! Thomas has even come to help over 70 foster dogs that we have had come through our house since he has been with us. He is friendly with all dogs and has such a joyful spirit that helps our fosters settle in and feel right at home. Thomas has been an incredible addition to our family and he has taught us so much since he joined our family. Thank you Lucky Pup Rescue!

Beautiful Lexie - Adopted March 2009

I received an urgent call one Sunday in 2009 asking if we could take in an emergency foster. When I picked Lexie up that afternoon, it was clear she was a very nervous young dog. but she quickly settled in once she learned that none of our dogs were going to hurt her and that she had to follow the house rules. Little did we know that she was snuggling into our hearts and that we would be the ones to adopt her!

Since Lexie came to our family, she has helped with around 60 fosters that have come through our house while waiting to find their own homes. She is very playful with adults and puppies, but is also a good role model in teaching the young ones what to do (and what not to do!). Lexie has a very playful spirit and is a joy to have around. She quickly discovered how warm it is under the bed covers and we just can’t resist indulging her. Lex likes to chase the birds out of the yard and can make it to the back fence in a split second. She is a very smart little gal, but on the other hand is a bit stubborn. She will grumble a bit when told to get off the bed, but she never takes it any farther. We have been lucky to have had Lexie join our household and she will continue to help more fosters through all of her years with us!

Frankie and Chloe

Frankie has been such an amazing addition to our family. She has brought so much joy and excitement to our lives. She loves running on the beach and digging holes in the sand. She recently learned how to swim in the ocean and now we can’t keep her out of the water. Frankie loves to go hiking in the summer and snowshoeing with us in the winter. She LOVES to run and she is super fast. Her favorite place to go is Happy Tails daycare. She LOVES playing with other dogs and showing the rookies the ropes.

Two years after adopting Frankie, we were introduced to her mother, Chloe. We fostered her and it wasn’t long until we fell in love with her, and ended up adopting her two months later. Chloe loves to cuddle and craves any attention you give her. You can tell she is so grateful to be a part of our family. Contrary to her daughter, Chloe prefers the company of people instead of dogs. She will go up to complete strangers and just sit in front of them and want them to pat her. Chloe recently got into weight pulling and placed 1st in the beginner’s class and 2nd in her weight class.

Chloe and Frankie love to play together and wrestle. Chloe came to us and didn’t really know how to play with other dogs or toys. Frankie has showed her everything she knows and it’s so cute to see Chloe do the same things Frankie does. It’s not often that a daughter teachers her mom. We can’t thank Lucky Pup enough for giving us not one, but two, amazing dogs.

I found some awesome information about Groenendaels- temperament and lifestyle on the attached description all suit us very well, I am totally psyched. I think Sam is predominantly that breed/ I am fascinated by the breed information, usually with mixes you don't get so much information. It will be so interesting to see how Sam grows and what his personality is! Snowpants is son to Sidney and brother to Sam, Sophie, Suzie, Steven, Sadie and Stuart

Snowpants (formerly Stanley) turned 2 years old in December. He has been the best addition to our family. We have all (humans Mom, Dad, and Suzy) bonded with our beautiful, blonde boy but he's especially his mom's boy. He's incredibly smart knowing which toy to pick up when asked (he has an extensive vocabulary) and super polite when getting treats and he especially loves to be petted. He has a chain link fenced-in yard and he loves to run, run, run. People ask us what kind of dog he is wherever we go and the vet told us he should be his own breed! He's still a LOT playful and a bit mouthy sometimes but it's probably from being spoiled so much but this boy is so loved by his family!

WOW!! I can't believe that it has been 2 years already!!

It's hard to remember what life was like without Memphis, he is such a loveable, happy little boy. He keeps us laughing with his playful antics, always ready for a game or any sort of fun!! He loves to wrestle with his big yellow brother and it often sounds like the house is going to come down when they really get going. He prefers to sleep in, but once we get up for the day he is so happy to be out for his walks. On the day of the photo we were exploring the woods of Lincoln NH, all 3 boys had such a great day and were exhausted that night. Memphis has tried his "paw" at agility classes, scent classes and even a tricks class--what could be better for a typical Pittie Clown. Thank you Lucky Pup for bringing my sweet guy into our lives!!

Yes, Lucy is doing wonderful! There is actually a funny story behind her name. We decided to keep it "Lucy" after posting a picture of her on Facebook then asking for any name suggestions people might have. A good friend of mine who has a BS in Animal Science wrote "You should name her Lucy. She looks like a Lucy." without ever know that was her original name! So we couldn't change it after that.

She really has been an awesome dog and I'm not just saying that. She is full of life and energy and has a lot of love to give. People have made comments like "she's the perfect size" and "she has a the goofiness of a Lab and the brains of a Cattle Dog." She listens very well, loves to be outside and go on hikes, plays fetch, and knows when to settle down at night. And she gets along great with other dogs!

I've attached a picture that I just took this morning because I wanted you to have the most current picture possible.

Wade - now Max!

Max was adopted in February 2011 (formerly Wade)

We are all doing very, very well! We did rename "Wade" to "Max". It was our intention to stick with his "given" name; however we found that everyone (including us) would speak to him in a Texas accent; Wade fit perfectly using that southern drawl! He actually adjusted quite well to the switch.

We couldn't be more happy with him. Although he had quite a bit of anxiety in the beginning of being left alone, that has subsided significantly and he is doing much better. We were happy to find that he is also a wonderful family dog! Our son James was born prematurely, and, needless to say, was rather fragile when coming home and we were a little concerned about how Max would react. He was so gentle and has become somewhat of a protector of his little brother!

Thank-you so much for bringing such a wonderful dog into our family!

Angel's Happy Story!

Hi! Thanks for thinking about us! I still love my little "Angel" to death. I didn't change her name as she truly fits her name (most of the time that is). She is now taking Canine Good Citizen classes, agility classes and scent work training. Of course, in my eyes, she is the star student in all the classes!

Thanks again for all you do to save these well deserving furry friends. I am extremely blessed to have found Pat Toro and her foster pup Angel.

Marley is doing great. Since she was answering to "Marley" we decided to keep it so not to confuse her. She loves to play with my dog and will curl up next to my cat. She goes to "doggie day care" one day a week to help socialize her with other dogs and people and to give Inara a little break. She is quite popular there! She is getting used to riding in the car and will curl up in the back seat and relax. We even brought her to one of my sons' football games at Maine Maritime Academy and she was very well behaved. Hope all is well with you.

Lily is a perfect fit for us, so gentle and such a sweet dog. We have been working with her to sit when asked and shake paws. We have even had some success with staying until called - she is very smart.

She and our cat Bell are getting along very well, which was exactly what we had hoped for.

Lily has been a wonderful addition to our family, and we all love her very much.

"Bruin is such a joy to have in our house! He was shy when we first got him, but our shepherd has really helped him come out of his shell. She has also taught him that car rides are a good thing! The more he came out of his shell the more energy he had. He makes me laugh every day with his crazy antics! He loves his walks around the neighborhood or any trail we can find plus trips to the dog park. We brought him to dog training and he passed with flying colors. The trainer called him the life of the party! Thank you so much to everyone at Lucky pup Rescue - we really love Bruin."

A Heartwarming Update

What a smile!

Lamar was adopted February 2010.

Lamar and his family are special to us because they took on a senior pit bull with medical issues – he came to us scarred and stiff from joint pain and has done AMAZING. We are thrilled to have given him a chance at a real life! Thank you so much for adopting this beautiful boy!

Lamar, A.K.A. "Big" as the family sometimes calls him, is doing great. He is settled into living in a house very well. Our family and everyone that meets Lamar absolutely falls in love with him! We have people all the time that ask to watch him if we go away. We even get our friends asking if they can walk him! Lamar’s favorite activity is still walking in the woods. He turns into a puppy every time! He also loves to give chase to the occasional squirrel or chipmunk. He loves car rides and going on the boat - really anything that involves people. We taught him how to swim this summer and he was nervous at first but now he loves to go in the water, especially to cool off. His weight is up to 72.5 pounds, which our doctor says is just about right. His joints still bother him a bit, especially at night after a long day outside or a long walk. He still takes a few pills in the morning for his joints and pain. Other than that, his health is great, they say. His coat has become very soft and shiny and the scars and bare skin on his elbows and knees have almost filled in with fur. He is getting better about getting his nails done too.

It is too bad about all the negativity surrounding pit bulls...I wish "they" could meet Lamar. People are always blown away by his personality and loveliness towards people and other animals.

Pretty Little Mandy

Mandy was adopted in September 2008: "Mandy is doing just fine, almost caught herself a red squirrel the other day. This squirrel has been daunting both dogs for weeks now. I would suspect that it will not do that anymore.

Mandy' favorite place is under my covers. I make my bed in the morning and about 10 minutes later, she has undone it, crawled under the covers in a knot and goes to sleep. I have attached a few photos. I lifted the covers to take one picture. As you can see she looks sleepy because I woke her to take the photos.

She loves to play with Drewie and they are great pals. They continue to play and run both inside and out. Mandy does figure eights while older Drewie just stands in the middle and tries to catch her...it is quite comical!"

Handsome Lenny's New Life

Lenny was adopted in June 2008: "Lenny has settled in nicely. It's like he has always been here. We have had two grandaughters born in the past year and a half and he gets along great with them. We go for a long walk every morning, which he really enjoys, and he likes to go for rides in the car as well as sunning himself in the yard. The extended family also loves having Lenny around. They are always asking if we brought him with us. He especially likes Thursday evening, when my wife has friends over, and he gets a treat from each of them.

We are truly happy having Lenny, and I think he feels the same. I can always rely on Lenny to greet me at the door every day when I come home from work."

Daisy Mae, Very Busy Girl!

Daisy Mae was adopted in March 2008: "Thanks for checking in! Daisy Mae is fantastic! We both admit that in the beginning, it was a little rough & we wondered what we had gotten ourselves into, but thankfully the growing period was relatively short & she adjusted nicely. Todd & Daisy are pretty much inseparable & he takes her everywhere. In fact, he just bought a new pickup truck & part of the reason why he chose the one he did was because the windows in the extended cab doors went down. Now Daisy can be in the back & stick her head out of the window. And if you can't find them off in the truck somewhere, then they are probably out in the woods walking the trail ... her other favorite thing to do.

On the flip side, we laugh (most times), because Daisy is a very busy dog. We can deal with the hole digging & pestering the cat, but the bee chasing (when she's allergic), trying to attack porcupines & messing with skunks we could have gladly done without. I think we are single-handedly keeping the emergency vets in business!

In the end, we couldn't have asked for a better dog. She is very loving & for the most part, very well behaved, but when the collie kicks in ... watch out! TUNNEL VISION!! :)

Dixie (formerly Bonnie) is Sadie's sister. She was adopted in April 2009. Here is her story: "Dixie is now a permanent resident and family member in our household.
She loves to hunt, and we understand that is fairly common for an Arkansas gal.

She is smart, attentive and loves being a part of the family activitives.

On Tuesday Dixie has play dates at the local kennel, where she is very much a part of the team.

"Beauty's name is now Sadie. She is a fantastic dog! She is so good with my grandchildren. She is well behaved, using good manners in the house. She loves to go for rides in the car. She's healthy and happy and we are so lucky to have found her. I have attached some pictures from our vacation last summer. She loved camping and even watched a bunny come into our site and eat her dog food.

Ben is a lovely boy who was a family dog until he was diagnosed with demodectic mange and needs a few months of treatments. His family couldn't afford the $400 monthly cost, and they were forced to surrender him so he could be treated. We took him into rescue when the local shelter's only option was to put him down because they couldn't afford it either.

With YOUR help, we'll be able to get him completely cured and on his way to the forever home that's waiting out there for him somewhere.

Adorable Hershey was adopted in December 2008. He was saved at the last minute from a certain death as the shelter he was in would not pay for his surgery. He was a senior dog, you see. He is cherished by his wonderful adopter and living quite an amazing and envious life in the Islands. Way to go, Hershey!

"Hershey and I are still very happy living in St. John in the Virgin Islands and making the best of his Caribbean Retirement. His favorite activities are riding in the car, napping on the sailboat, and playing fetch with tennis balls and his other island dog friends! "Maddox, or Loki as we call him, is doing great. He is the calmest and smartest dog. He loves the kids and keeps us all busy with walks and outdoor play, his favorites. In the daytime, he usually lounges around with me (mom) and rests until the boys come home (17 and 14 years old) to play with him... Most days he has a morning run/romp with our neighbor's dog. At night, he follows my husband around for a night walk about the neighborhood. That is our usual routine! Loki gets a lot of yard play and we have woods all around our house so he gets to go in them when the boys are home. The rest of the time he stays indoors or in our yard. He has trained well and just hangs out watching the neighbors, kids and other dogs go by. He has been a great joy in our family."

"Kiefer is doing great! He is our precious little man and we enjoyed him so much that we went out and got another addition for the family. We adopted Maggie, a half chihuahua half mini-pinscher, and they have gotten along famously. He's 72 pounds and she's only 8, but boy do they love to rumble and tumble. It's absolutely adorable. He's such a good boy that he's a pushover, and she is so energetic that she ends up picking on him. She'll grab him by the ear and try to get him to play. He'll ignore her until it's obvious she won't leave him alone and they he'll get up and they will chase each other around the house.

Kiefer just has his check up and he is in great health. We can't believe how lucky we got by adopting him. He's just so well behaved and can be such a cuddle bug when he wants to."

Hi, Chelsea is doing great. We have been living back in Nashville for a while where she has a fenced in yard and we go running in the park most evenings. She's been getting plenty of human interaction in Nashville and she is surprisingly good with children.

She has matured a bit over the last 2 years and in some cases has calmed down and is a bit more relaxed but she has tons of energy and loves to run.

Hector (formerly Jerry) - Adoption Update!

Hector was adopted in May 2009: "Thank you for contacting me inquiring about my "boy" Hector. I could go on and on about this guy, but I will spare you. Suffice to say that Hector is one of the the best things to happen to me in the past 3 years. He came into my life during a period of sadness and upheaveal and honestly I wonder how I would have fared without him. During my most "down" times there was this little (later, fairly large!) bundle of fur doing something so goofy that I had to laugh. I'm now in a much better frame of mind and Hector is a big reason why.

Hector came to me entirely by accident. I went to see a different puppy but that little guy wanted nothing to do with me. I sat on the step at the foster home wondering what my next step would be when Hector (then Jerry) climbed up on the step behind me and licked my ear. Love at first lick! I took him home that day.

My grandson came up with the name Hector. We all laughed about such a silly name for a dog, but he's lived up to it. Hector the Wrector, Hector the Protector he's all of the above and more.

He takes his Retriever heritage VERY seriously. I'm always guaranteed a boot, shoe, or his bed when I come home from work. He's fairly well behaved, quite smart, knows quite a repertoire of "tricks" and commands and is great with my grandkids. He alerts me to anyone (or thing) in the yard but I'm not sure if he'd ever attack anyone. For the most part he's been wonderful with anyone who comes into the house. He'll back away if he's unsure of someone, but shows no aggression. His bark is enough to scare anyone off anyway.

I have 2 cats that he has made a truce with. He harrasses them and they give it right back to him, but there has been no real "fights", just squabbles.

My biggest challenge with Hector has been getting him out to socialize. He loves other dogs but hasn't been around many strangers, so at every opportunity I take him with me on errands and to Pet Quarters (one of his favorite places). So far so good.

I often talk about Lucky Pup and what a Lucky Human I've been to have found Hector. Thank you so much for my new best friend. I'm forever grateful.

Penny's Happy Ending!

Penny (formerly Sunshine) was adopted in December 2008: "Sunshine is now known as Penny. I've attached a picture of her under my desk at work and also of her winning the Woofstock costume contest as a "wolf in sheep's clothing", which fits her quite well since she is still "head shy" and will generally lunge at strangers if they pet her too long or loom over her. Yet she instantly goes back for more attention! She's remains a bit puzzling with that but overall she is a great and trustworthy dog to us and to her close friends - both dog and humans. She is always better behaved when tired out and challenged but this is no easy task! We are going to agility classes and that is really fun and a good challenge for her. Walks are more tiring for her when she wears her pack.

Once pets make their way into your heart -idiosyncrasies and all - there is nothing you won't do to help them.

Jack was adopted in November 2008: "Jack is doing great! We’ve had him for just 2 years now and we still aren’t sure just who is luckier – him or us. He has tons of dog friends in the neighborhood who we walk with everyday. His favorite thing (other than being with us) is chasing squirrels, chipmunks and rabbits. He creeps to the sliding glass door each time he goes into that room, hoping one is waiting just on the other side. It’s very funny. We call him our Blab because he looks and seems like a cross between a lab and beagle. People are always amazed that he is a rescue (or re-homed!) dog because he really has no issues or baggage whatsoever. We got lucky. So did he.

Here’s a cute pic from Halloween. So many words have Jack in them so we just had to celebrate our little Jack O’Lantern!

Nadi: "Sandy now goes by the name Nadi. She lives with her mom, dad, and big brother Django. Nadi loves her morning romps in the woods and would probably spend the whole day there if she could. She also enjoys traveling and can finally get into the back of the station wagon on her own. At 70 lbs it was getting a little difficult to pick her up every time. Nadi spends her days either on the couch with her brother or guarding the yard from squirrels. She's very enthusiastic and makes friends everywhere she goes. If she could, she would thank Lucky Pup Rescue for helping her find a family that loves her so much.

Fisher: "Patrick...now Fisher and often Fish...is doing great! He is great dog...loves to be outside running and playing with his four legged buddies, but not until he enthusiastically greets every human! He only barks when he is ready to play, loves his morning carrot and is the best friend to Mark and I. He is a great addition to our family. We are grateful for him and he is a perfect fit for our active outdoor life...as we were in VT last week and got 34 inches of snow he wanted to lead the pack and cut the trail and never wants to go back inside! Abbey: "She is doing fantastic!!! Actually, we changed her name when we got her. Her name is Abbey, and she is SUCH a love bug!!! She’s very happy. She loves everybody, she loves to run and play in the snow in the winter and in the water in the summer. She’s an excellent snuggler, and can be a goofball too. She is the sweetest girl, we are so lucky!!! We are actually having our first baby next month, so she will be a big sister! She loves kids, so I think that she’ll be great with him. We take her to doggy day care one day a week, and she has so much fun! She gets so excited when she’s going to see her friends. And then she’s exhausted at the end of the day. I’ve attached a few pictures of Abbey. We are so happy with her, it’s awesome coming home to her, she’s so happy to see us! And she loves to snuggle in bed with us at night. She is very smart, and learns things very quickly. We couldn’t have gotten a better dog!"

Molly: "We adopted a pit cross named Molly. She’s doing great. She enjoys a daily walk on the beach, and playing with our children Jacob and Finn. She is working on not jumping on people and not chasing our cats around the house. She loves playing with other doggie friends and sniffing all the smells in the woods. We are very fortunate to have him. When I get new photos on my computer to share I will. Henry is just the right size for our family, he weighs about 45lbs. He is over 2 years old now. He is very strong and has a bad habit of jumping on my counter like a cat. He loves to play with other dogs and loves his toys, or with the ocasional slipper or sock. Merritt - Adopted in August 2010!

My husband and I could not have adopted a more perfect dog for our little family. Merritt is a beautiful shepherd mix who we adopted when she was about 7 months old. She has the best disposition and is such a fun, happy dog--and very easy to train. She and my husband go for daily walks through the Fells near our home and frequent the dog parks where she loves to play chase and tug of war. Everyone who meets her, loves her! Merritt has brought so much joy to our lives! We truly can't imagine our lives without her. Who knew that a rescue dog from Arkansas would be such a snow dog? She absolutely loved bounding through the 3+ feet that covered our backyard for most of January! I think winter and snow is her preferred climate. So far, she's not much of a water dog. She'll wade in streams up to her stomach, but if she can't touch the bottom, she'll get nervous and climb out. The thing she loves best about the warm weather is definitely the return of the squirrels--she goes absolutely nuts for them!

Jerry was adopted February 2010: "Jerry is doing great at our house, he gets to play with his freinds at daycare a few days a week, we go for walks, he sleeps in his favorite chair, we play with his ducky and he loves to bit the rake and the broom when we do chores. Jerry now knows, sit, stay, easy, go get your ducky, shake a paw, other paw and laydown. He loves to cuddle and get attention from his boy Andrew, who he sleeps with every night and loves to moan, groan and sigh when he naps in the sun. We couldn't ask for a better furry friend. Thank you Lucky Pup for saving Jerry and giving us an oppourtunity to love him."

Update on Chase!

Akeem was adopted in July 2010: "Chase (formally Akeem) was just at the vet last week and weighs 46lbs and got his new shots and is heartworm negative. He is very active and loves camping, hiking and rollerblading. The shy little guy has truly come out of his shell and loves petting by everyone! He likes to play tricks on his brother and has such a fun personality. Attached is a picture of Chase (Akeem) with our other dog Bastian being lazy!"

Adrienne's Update!

Pretty Adrienne (on the left) - "Adrienne tested positive for heartworm in February but our sweet little girl did very well on her two months of crate rest, and is now back to her normal activity level. She will be retested in September.

I have attached two pictures, one with her buddy, Brando, whom we adopted 3 days before Adrienne.

Lucky Pup Rescue has been invited by the Animal Refuge League to participate in the 4th annual Paws in the Park Dog Walk to be held Sunday, September 4th in Portland 's Payson Park.

This event attracts many animal lovers who come to walk, browse and look at different breeds and types of dogs. Amid the beautiful backdrops Back Cove and Payson Park offer, we will have a booth with materials and information to promote our rescue. There will be food, drinks, contests, demonstrations, and of course, the walk itself. And, this year they have also added a 5K run to the festivities!

This is a day for all dogs to strut their stuff, and who better to join the Animal Refuge League than the many faces of rescue groups!

Presentation at Reigning Cats and Dogs in Wells

We have a great opportunity! Sergei from the Dog Rehabilitation Center of Maine in Greene is coming on Friday - 1:30pm at Reigning Cats and Dogs in Wells at 913 Post Road (in the plaza with Reny's and Hannaford). He will be presenting about aggression and guarding (dogs who bark incessantly at new people, noises or reactive aggressively towards new dogs). He will also have some time to work with some dogs so if it is cool outside please bring your dog and we can leave them in the car until he has us bring them in. (Please let me know if you will bring your dog so I can be sure we dont have 50 people expecting him to work with his dogs).

Cost is $20 for adopted dogs and/or owners.

Free for fosters and foster dogs.

Handsome Curly Update!

CURLY. I adopted him three years ago when he was 5 months old. He and his two brothers, Larry and Mo, were my first foster pups. Curly is a big (80 lb.) love muffin. He is my constant companion and, although he always wants to be with me, he loves other people and other dogs. I am so blessed that he found me!

Handsome Buster!

Buster was adopted just last month, in May.

"He's doing well . We let him off leash in the yard to play ball and "frisbee" and he's good about staying around. We need to get the invisible fence system going though because if he sees someone walking or jogging by or another dog, he's off to greet them! He's learned to stay off the furniture/beds and mostly doesn't jump up on his family members but we're still working on his manners with strangers -- he gets way too excited and can't control his urge to jump. I try to take him for a walk everyday -- today we went for 40 minutes and that was good for him. He and the old cat don't bother with each other at all. The young cat seems to dominate over Buster. Sometimes Buster gets trapped in a room because the cat is laying by the doorway. He seems to favor me as his "person" but likes to be with Dan and the kids too. So, I think we've all adapted OK with having a dog in our family!"

Ginger loves a good hike!

Ginger, formerly Candice, was adopted in July 2009! She is daughter of Chloe, who came north this spring.

"Ginger is doing really well and we just love her. She loves her runs and walks on the beach. She loves to lounge in the sun and chase the chipmunks out of the yard. When we go to my parents' lake house, she spends the day chasing the waves and "protecting" us from them (waves). :) We have been overall very happy with her and want to thank you again for rescuing her and bringing her up north!"

This gorgeous duo were formerly Harvey and Henry, now renamed Stout and Porter. Here's what their adopter has to say: "The Pups are doing very well, continue to run on the treadmill ( which is a funny picture in itself ) and we bring them to our local day care at least
once a week, where they love them because they motivate the other dogs to play all day. We got really lucky with these two as they have the best
temperament and love being around each other and people!"

Bandita - the 3rd dog to be adopted out by LPR!

Bandita is such a wonderful dog! She is so full of life and even dances around when we return home.... wish we'd named her Prancer
or something to indicate this behavior! She loves our daily walks and has become close to all of us equally. I know that other dogs picked one favorite (pack leader) and the rest of us were second class, but not so w/ Bandita- she treats us all with the same love. She is a very healthy dog and we can't imagine life without her. Thank you, Lucky Pup!"
