New Sweeties arrive in Maine

Beautiful pug mix puppies entertained us all with their wrinkly faces and feisty personalities. The funniest thing was that the only dog they didn't bark at was Alice, who looks like she could be their mom! Joanne, Janet and Jessi are sweet things getting ready to go to their forever families!

Cutie-pie Savannah (on the left) is doing fantastic in her new home - she even plays fetch while off-leash, and she runs with her new mom and dad! What a lucky pup! Her new family is perfect for her and we are so happy for her!

Sky (on the right) is a husky with gorgeous eyes and fur, and her new mom and dad are perfect for her too - ready-made playmates are available for her because she lives at PetWorks of Maine now - a doggy day-care!

Meeka is getting so big! His family thinks he is the best! We are so happy for this Lucky Pup! He is living proof that they can overcome rough beginnings and become terrific family dogs!

Beautiful day for Pet and People Walk!

Blue skies and warm sun graced Baxter Boulevard - not to mention a couple hundred beautiful dogs and their people! The Center for Grieving Children held their annual Pet and People Walk. I can't think of a better cause! There are so few resources to help children with loss.

We had 6 Lucky Pup pals join us - Savannah is a recently-adopted cutie, as is Sky. Arlo and Meeka are alumni, Opey is one of the weimeraner pups waiting for a new home, and Blizzard is Janet's first rescue dog - one of the inspirations for her to start Lucky Pup Rescue!

Check out pictures of our sweeties! Arlo did not know what to do with the bear character. He kept sniffing him and seemed to be wondering why he didn't smell like a dog! And Opey was exhausted after the walk and all the socializing! If you look carefully you can see 4 more of our dogs splayed out around him!

Latest arrival of sweetie-pies!

On Saturday we picked up nine beautiful dogs from their transports and placed them into foster care here in New England. The pictures will show you Baxter, an adorable Cattle Dog mix. There's also Nick, a Jack Russell who is less than 10 lbs, and Gus, who is a goofy black lab MUCH more than 10 lbs! Thelma and Louise are beautiful young Golden Retriever sisters, and Trixie is a gorgeous border collie girl. Tippid is the cutest West Highland Terrier and we also brought up Spring and Sky. We ALWAYS have new pets just waiting to meet you - every size, shape, breed, and mixture - all that have been saved from certain death, all looking for just the right family to call their own forever.

Donation Sensation!

Sunday was a highlight of a day for our rescue -- it was the culmination of a humanitarian fundraising effort in support of one of our nation's heroes. Eric Pierce is an Army Sgt. who was stationed in Afhanistan. He and his unit had raised a litter of puppies and Eric had trained Sandy, a shepherd/husky mix, from the time she was just a few weeks old. Now that his unit was to return home, they were ordered to dispose of the dogs. Finding the idea less than bearable, Eric and his fellow soldiers drove the three young dogs 12 miles down the road to an area they hoped would be safe. All three of the dogs made their way back to the base, so the soldiers committed to taking them home. The cost was pretty significant, at $2,900.00 each. Eric sent a message to his mom, Maddy, asking for friends and family to help. Lucky Pup Rescue volunteers donated, military veterans and active duty personnel donated and kind strangers donated. Not only was Eric able to fly Sandy home with the help of "Tigger House", a rescue in Kabul, but the extra money raised was put to good use. A donation was sent to Tigger House, and Eric's sister and mom went shopping. Maddy and Christine Pierce purchased supplies for their local humane society as well as Lucky Pup Rescue. On Sunday, Janet and Sue drove from Kennebunk to North Anson, Maine and filled their two vehicles with the copious donations of dog food, crates, leashes, collars and flea/tick preventative that had been purchased for the rescue. The Pierces also set aside some funds at Southern Maine Veterinary Care to help with medical costs of the rescue dogs. Their generous donations will allow the rescue to breathe a little easier and save even more dogs. Since we are non-profit we are funded completely by the adoption fees, private donations, and fundraising. Many of the dogs require care that exceeds the $300.00 adoption fee so this generous donation from the Pierces will allow us to rescue more dogs in need and take on another case like Scrappy Doo or Ivy who needs more medical care than shelters and private citizens can support. We can't thank them enough!

Sandy has been living with Eric's sister Christine and her family but will be returning to Tennessee with Eric shortly and she will be reunited with two of her brothers who also returned to the states with their adopted dads.

May Day

What a beautiful day in downtown Kennebunk! We enjoyed the parade and had several Lucky Pup alumni and foster dogs. Our alumni were Sully, Captain, Arlo and Rhett - and the available sweeties were Caroline, Rocky and Ivy. We also had a booth with a carnival game and items for sale -- the fleece dog toys were a big hit! Check out the pics.

Puppy LOVE!

Oh my gracious! Our Arkansas friends Lisa, Leanne, and Cissy arrived yesterday with 20 dogs! We are so excited, and we spent the day snuggling with puppies! Check out pictures below! Of these we have approx. 6 available for adoption - Mason, Maddox, Jeremy, Jerry, Jason and Jacob, Maureen and Molly, and Caroline.
