Great Day at Mary's Walk!

We so enjoyed ourselves at Mary's Walk yesterday, and helped raise money for a great cause, the Maine Cancer Foundation. Several of us in the rescue worked with Mary Kerry Libby, who the race is held in memory of. Her family and friends are incredible!

We LOVE seeing our alumni dogs! We had Kaleigh (now Jenny), Arlo, Reba and Chloe with us, and our adoptable big boy Wesley as well as Janet's own Blizzard girl!

Plan to join us next year for an even bigger Lucky Pup team!

Alyssa, now Bree, and Aries graduated from Obedience Class this week! Thank you to Kim and the AWS staff for showing them (and us) the ropes!

We were thrilled to be part of the Grand Opening of Finish Forward Dogs, a new training studio in Saco. If you want to get your pooch trained, participate in doggy sports, or get some much-needed advice see Shannan and her crew at Finish forward! (www.finishforwarddogs.com) We were happy to have our adoptable dogs Tex (foxhound) and Lady (bloodhound) and thrilled to see our alumni dogs Meeka (brindle cutie), Frankie (the yellow puppy), and Baxter (cute little black dog).

Loading up for the journey back to Maine

The pups were ready to roll! The weather was much better than the previous day's travel, and the humans were organized and motivated. That all added up to make a pretty smooth day, even though we started to get nervous once or twice about fitting everybody. Some of the pairings we anticipated weren't working out so we had to separate and re-group dogs, and some of those E puppies were way bigger than we thought so they couldn't share small crates after all!

We couldn't wait to get here! 1500 miles and a few glitches along the way (like this lovely weather fit for penguins or polar bears that we encountered through Maryland and West Virginia!) we made it to our new pals who anxiously awaited our arrival. Freshly bathed and raring to go, they greeted us, gave kisses but then settled down for their last night before coming north to find their forever homes. Sleep tight little ones!

Thank you to L & L for saving them and for running them around these last couple days for vet checks, health certificates and great-smelling baths!

Lexi is a bouncy girl!

Little Miss Lexi couldn't get enough of greeting her new adoring fans. She's an active girl who is going to need some training in her manners with other dogs and humans. She is so beautiful and has grown so much since coming into her wonderful southern foster home with consistent meals and lovin!

Check out Rose!

Look at Princess Rose! She's loving the attention from her humans, no doubt about that! Rose is a gorgeous Red Heeler who was happy to greet us all but also happy to snuggle up for some lovin' with Lisa!

Kaleigh and her babies

Have you ever seen more beautiful dogs? Kaleigh is the aussie mom and she loves her babies. She is a very good mama~ She is gorgeous and sweet and these puppies are really something - one more beautiful than the next. We don't know how anyone could choose just one!

These sisters are very tiny - 5-7 lbs maybe ! They are going to be fantastic small dogs. They love to be held, and Chelsea is the least outgoing with other dogs but all seem to love attention from people! Their sisters were busy snoozing at the moment but they all wanted o say hello to us - gorgeous dogs, one after the other!

Beautiful Sebastian!

This little guy needs a Valentine miracle!

His southern foster home says he needs to go, and he is a special needs case for sure. He has been through so much! Sebastian was probably the product of a backyard breeder or puppy mill that didn't know what they were doing. They bred two merle mini-aussies and that produces a genetically defective dog that is often blind, deaf or both. Sebastian is blind and is living in a foster home with way too many dogs, leaving him confused most of the time. He gets snarky with the other dogs because they bump into him or try to play and he doesn't understand. He is being crated most of the time which is making him hate the crate (who wouldn't?!)

He is just a precious boy at about 25 lbs, and he needs more 1:1 attention than he is getting, and would probably do great with just one other dog to help him "see" life from a doggy-size perspective. He gets along best with large female dogs. An ideal home would be with someone who has experience with blind dogs, Aussies, AND who is home alot of the time (we know it's a very tall order) OR someone who will love him enough to work through his issues and to seek help from experienced professionals.

The southern rescue has given Sebastian one last chance for freedom and a good life by sending him to us. We could not give up on this guy! He is not even two years old - he deserves a good long life in a loving home. Sebastian has a particular passion for water and even loves wading pools. Imagine if he had a family who would take him to a beach or lake in New England! He also loves to go on leash walks and does well in a fenced-in yard.

If you are not ready to foster or adopt Sebastian perhaps you could donate towards his transportation north and his care, particularly for a trainer to help us with his special needs related to blindness.

If you are looking to share the love this Valentine's Day, helping Sebastian would be a good start!
